Membership

The membership consists of 80 lawyers, judges, and law students. The membership is widely diverse, bringing together Federal, State, Appellate and Superior Court judges, large firm partners and associates, sole practitioners, City Attorneys, County Attorneys, District Attorneys, Public Defenders, and in-house counsel. Law student members are traditionally recruited from the law schools throughout the Bay Area.

New Members

Membership is by nomination. We encourage you to first bring any potential nominee to an Inn Program and Dinner, before submitting the nomination. We are especially interested in getting more federal court practitioners. The potential nominee should see what the Inn is like, see how it functions, and have a chance to meet current members.

Most importantly, the nominating member ideally has an ongoing relationship with the nominee, and should explain to the nominee the time commitments involved, and contributions expected, especially when a member's team is preparing for its presentation. Nominating members may be assigned to the same team as their nominees (if accepted) and should serve as a mentor.

How It Works

Teams

The Inn divides itself into eight teams. To advance the goal of mentoring new lawyers and law students, each team is comprised of one judge, attorneys of various years of experience, and one law student. At each meeting, one team is responsible for presenting an original legal education program to the greater membership.
